Artist Jane Ingram Allen Presents Papermaking workshop at Hertitage Pointe of Teaneck

Residents, Guests and Public Create Art from Plants

TEANECK, N.J., June 18, 2010 – Jane Ingram Allen, an artist who recently completed her residency for the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, presented a papermaking with plants workshop for residents, guests and the general public at Heritage Pointe of Teaneck. Allen, a sculptor/installation artist whose work has been exhibited across the U.S. and in various locations throughout the world, stayed at the full-service rental retirement community during her residency, courtesy of Heritage Pointe.

(L-R) Sara Egerman, a visitor to Heritage Pointe through it’s short-term stay program and Heritage Pointe resident Ethel Solomon enjoy a demonstration from Allen during the workshop. While some participants kept their final products, others donated their projects to the Teaneck Creek Conservancy. The handmade paper is made using a papermaking screen with a stencil in a fish shape. The screen is dipped into a container of paper pulp made from the leaves and bark of plants. The pulp also contained seeds for wildflowers, and flower petals and leaves were added by the participants for decoration. After the handmade paper fish are dry, they will be added to the installation Allen created at the Fycke Lane entrance to Teaneck Creek Conservancy.
