Friendship – and a travel adventure – begins at Heritage Pointe of Teaneck
London is vacation destination for residents Gerry Wagner and Bill Rini
TEANECK, NJ (October 27, 2011) – There’s a common image of retirement communities that involves rocking chairs, afghans, and lots of napping. But as Heritage Pointe of Teaneck residents Gerry Wagner and Bill Rini demonstrate, such communities can actually be pathways to new friendships and overseas adventures.
First-time flyer Wagner and fellow Heritage Pointe resident Rini – who first became acquainted at the full-service retirement community, in 2008 – recently spent a week on holiday “across the pond” in the U.K. They’d been considering the possibility of a big getaway, and once they decided to head overseas, England seemed the obvious destination. After all, the two friends reasoned, while it’s thousands of miles distant, with a different culture, the folks there still speak English.
“Traveling to London was something I’d always wanted to do – and the experience completely exceeded my expectations,” Wagner observes. “We went to Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben, and St. Paul’s Cathedral – all were incredible. And it was great to have Bill to hang around with while doing the tourist thing.”
In addition to a wealth of attractions within London, Rini and Wagner also toured the famed English countryside. An hour east of London, they visited Leeds Castle in Kent, renowned as the “Loveliest Castle in the World.” Constructed in 1119, and adorned with drawbridges, towers, and portcullises, the structured became a royal palace in 1278 for Edward I and his queen, Eleanor of Castile.
“Our residents consistently are presented with opportunities to meet new people and do or see things they didn’t think were possible,” says Saundra Pomerantz, director of Community Relations at Heritage Pointe. “Bill and Gerry are perfect examples of how this community, and the connectedness it offers, can truly redirect people’s lives.”
While in London, Rini and Wagner spent time sightseeing, dining, and attending theater productions in various parts of they city.
“London’s a remarkably historic place; it was fascinating to have time to really explore it,” Rini says. “And, now that Gerry’s a seasoned flyer, the sky’s the limit for our next adventure.”
